Improving debug with ICD U40
PostPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2012 1:55 pm     Reply with quote

Hi people,

How can I improve more velocity debugging with CCS's ICDU40? When I'm using that one, my pc run in "slow motion". What can I do to run fast? Are there other option(model more fast)?
Thanks.

First ICD U40 is extremely fast. Now the ICD debug code is written into high memory so as to produce fast results ( you need a few hundred bytes available) MPLAB PIC kit which first requires a firmware download for every specific chip and has moderate performance. Now if you have your programming pins and MCLR poorly configured for the ICD U40 the code might be requiring several repeats before it is accepted. Look carefully at what CCS suggests for pull ups and isolation of the programming pins from other active circuit components. The PC could be the issue as well. CCS code uses Delphi so its pretty efficient but every PC can have a CPU hog installed.

But my hardware uses the PIC ICD pins only for programing and debugging and it's still very slow. I like to use ICD for debugging, but I don't have experience on CCS debugger's. Is it possible CCS C/ICD U40 run like ICD2/MPLAB?
Thanks.
