What I meant was that there was a problem with the program code in the 16f870 that caused the problem.

Sounds more like it sprung a leak and was spewing electrons all over the I2C bus but it sounds like the code has been worked over a bit and the hole has been fixed.

Did you report this to Microchip or may be to Philips "I2C Standard Dpt." ?
