Can #useRS32 be used on any two pins?

I always took for granted that the i2c, rs232, etc. serial communication routines assumed that the PIC device has a hardware uart and/or i2c.

I am curious to know if rs232 can be assigned to any arbritary pins?

I guess i'm asking if the #use rs232 code are drivers for PICs with rs232, or are they software implementations that work on any two pins you choose?

As far as I know, the compiler will use the hardware UART, if there is one present on the pins, or make a software one if not. You can pick any pins for the RS232 lines, BUT, there will be no interrupt on receive, if you don't use a hardware UART.
