How much does the basic version of CCS C for PIC16F series cost? Where can I buy it?

I want to use the IDE that comes with it... i see that the command line version is $50 ....

That compiler is for really low-end PICs, such as the 10F200 or 12F510.
And that compiler is given away for free with MPLAB vs. 8.92 anyway.
Don't buy it.
The cheapest IDE version is for 16F and 18F PICs and it's $350 USD.
It's not cheap. Even the command line version is $200 for 18F PICs
and must be used with MPLAB IDE. If you buy the CCS IDE version,
you have to use their programmer (ICD-U64).
CCS used to have a student version. I don't know if they still do.
You could email their support department and ask. |

This sucks... MPLABX CX8 and HI-TECH C are free, but i have issues with them (they run in my emulator but not on a chip)... I really wish CCS C was free.... i also wish it had a double data type instead of just float..... IDE could be a bit nicer too.....

You get what you pay for.
If you only want an unlimited free compiler your best bet is likely going to
be Microchip XC. According to their site it is completely unlimited except for
optimization which you can do with without.
Another free one is SDCC
For the PAID compilers CCS is one of the best and with quality comes cost.
