PIC32 support

Has anybody heard anything about if CCS plans to support the PIC32 line? I shot them an email a few weeks back, but have yet to hear anything.

This was raised in the forum years ago!.

Thing to understand is that the PIC32, is not a PIC!....
The PIC32, is a MIPS core. There is a relatively good C to MIPS cross compiler already available under Linux (LinuxMIPS), and because the core was already in use, this was available before MicroChip launched the chips. Problem is that if CCS went to the effort of writing a compiler for this core, demand would be limited by the 'free' offerings available. Whereas on the traditional PIC, they had the 'high ground' of offering a huge suite of predefined library functions making their compiler much easier and quicker to develop with than the alternatives, there are 'off the shelf' libraries for the MIPS, covering most things. Add then the Microchip offerings, and the work is unlikely to ever be economic....

Thanks for that explanation. I didn't think to 'search' for PIC32 because I hadn't seen any talk about it.
