Good day! I installed MPLABX for linux on ubuntu since there is no CCS version for linux. But I would like to know how to link the version I have for CCS with MPLAB. I have a windows version of the compiler CCS 5.xx. Thank you for your time!

I found a compiler for linux, its command line CCS PCM but its 150 dollars and I cant afford it. Any free version for CCS PCM for linux?

What do you mean its a rip off? I didn't pay for the free version! I have SDCC, Hi-Tech C also but I don't want to start learning a new compiler. so I prefer using CCS.

The windows version has a free option, doesn't the linux version have one?

so where did you find the "free" version? -

You should understand that "free" usually means cracked ....
and NEITHER reliable or ethical to use. Certainly not sanctioned by
the hard working builder/maintainers of the compiler.
You won't catch the old hands here messing with such......

CCS provides a free version, you can download it from their website, also when you install MPLAB and the plugin for CCS when you start MPLAB it gives you do you want to download a demo version of CCS!

They do a time limited demo. It is not even remotely a 'full' version of CCS. Designed to allow people to possibly evaluate if the compiler is for them.

It makes no difference! I have to make the settings with linux first, since Im a new linux user. Isnt that the point of the evaluation? I have no intention of buying CCS for 150 dollars...Thats why I need a free PCM linux version for PIC10, PIC12 to continue learning the baselines.

Since CCS does sell a LINUX version, perhaps if you talk nice to them, they'll send you a 'demo' version ?
I'm assuming that maybe 95% are windows based that's why the demo version is W based.

Actually since 95% are linux based toolchains thats why they most likely dont provide a free linux version. Normal users use windows, but commercial users use Linux and they require that you are able to work with Linux and the command line. The Linux version is a command-line version.

How can you say that 95% use Windows? based on the sales of CCS licences? ahaha

I use Ubuntu since 2006 and I purchased CCS C for Windows (which run in a virtual machine) only because CCS does not offer a satisfactory solution for Linux users.

It would be very nice to have IDE and IPE on Ubuntu. More and more professionals and hobbyists are using open source stuff, as it offer more tools to program many things.

I make the assumption that since most of the 'personal computers' are sold with Windows, that the majority of the PC users , use a Windows based version of CCS.
Might be off a point or two......
I still have PCM 2.453 on my W98 machine, rock solid, so no need to run Linux. Besides I'm getting old and it ain't easy to teach an old dog new tricks !
I do a little Delphi programming though, nice tight code without needing any Windows 'stuff'.

A properly written app, to run under .nix, could of course be also written to work on a Mac. Now that would be nice, I only use Mac's, and use virtual machines to run CCS. MPLAB-X on the Apple, is better than the Windoze version...
