Unfortunately, this thread might just be a case study in how not to pursue a new project. After three months and 4 pages, it appears that there is very little that you actually have working.....
I would suggest that you take a step back, take a deep breathe, and start with the basics. First, I'd generate a schematic for your project, and then methodically test each part (GPS, GSM, etc.), before putting everything together to achieve your final goal. Every project you do should include an LED indicator that you can flash on startup to verify that the PIC is running as intended, and a serial port for diagnostic purposes.
Start with some modest victories, and build from there. If afraid that if you continue on your current path, your project is ultimately doomed!
What you want to do is achievable without a whole lot of difficulty, but no one is going to just hand you their complete code! We'll certainly help, but you've got to help yourself first. So far, there isn't a lot of evidence that you have.....

Thank you for your advice, also am nearly finish this project, I have done a lot so far, like in 3 weeks time from now will be finished, I have program for GPS and worked fine, also at the end when I finish everything I will post here full code and everything, also I have already done what you mention...
Then I don't want someone to give me full code, I just want little advice if am doing something wrong so I can just correct my self, I want to learn how to do it by my self, but so far am in good position to finish this project, the last bit I was testing is GSM that's all for hardware part, I like to know new staff that why since I started this thread am just asking when I have problem...but thank for advice and am expecting to learn more from you!! |

Thank you again bkamen
Yes I noticed the problem I will make some changes to that and fuses as well |
I think you're still missing a HUGE point we've all been trying to make.
Have you read Section 2.0 of the datasheet titled Oscillator Module??
Read it VERY closely.

Thank you Ben
Yes I have checked now, so I will changes 20 MHz to 16MHz and fuse as well, datasheet explained everything...Appreciate Ben |

First of al I would like to thank you CCS FORUM for the best compiler and straight forward.
Second I would to thank you all members of this forums and special thanks to temtronic, ezflyr, bkamen, Ttelmah, PCM programmer, dyeatman, ckielstra
First ezflyr thank you for your challenges, because your challenge helps me a lot to finish this project and do more research and do everything in my own, appreciate and keep doing like that to everyone else out there, I was stack at some point but you came up and challenge me a lot since from the beginning like I don't know what am doing or I have choose hard project, I am happy for my self and the project worked 100%.
So am happy with it and proud, because most of guys thought may be I may end up with nothing because I have choose this difficult project, but am happy I have made it.
Also other guys (ezflyr, bkamen, Ttelmah, PCM programmer, dyeatman, ckielstra) am happy with you for point me some mistake I appreciate keep doing like that and not to provide everything for someone doesn't know what is doing.
Also big thanks to those who ignored my messages, but am happy I have managed to make my project without any problem.
Gabriel you the best bro and keep doing like that, thank you for your advice and everything....
Please MODERATOR mark this thread as solved and you transfer to library for future reference or if possible you can lock this thread.
Regards
Papi

I dont think I participated in this thread, but in any case Im glad you think I was helpful, and that you got your project working.
I think everybody else that helped you out deserves more credit than me.

Hello!
I've done this your design and had the same problem. The solution is very simple:
Uses a CD4066 to switch the TX and RX signals with GPS and GSM.
For example: When you read the GPS keyA RX for GPS and the same for GSM.

Papi wrote: | Hi all,
I just want advice on what I should do, actual am using PIC16F877A with ccs c compiler with MPLAB, I really like this compiler but this time am not too sure, What I want is am planning to use GSM and GPS but for PIC16F877A there is only one port for RX and TX,
But I have tried to do research and read datasheet for CCS C compiler and they said its possible but how?? I don't know here, so the project is based on car tracking system, so I will use GSM to send message to my mobile number for car location longitude and latitude and GPS to get latitude and longitude,
Also am using LCD 16 x 2 with flex_lcd.c. connected my LCD and tested everything worked fine, I can see something on the LCD
I'm using LCD because after message sent I want to display the location on my LCD......
I have tested my PIC with two LED flashing with 20MHZ everything worked fine... controlling the PIC with 5V
Type of GSM is GSM SIEMENS TC35 (5V)
Type of GPS is GPS 9540 with (5V)
Questions
(1) So for the GPS and GSM do I need to use MAX232 to connect to my PIC?
(2) How am going to use my GSM and GPS with PIC16F877A??Advice here please, between GSM and GPS which one should I use for the RX and TX pins??
(3) Also one of them between GSM and GPS I can connect to Hardware and another one using software, so am not to sure here about software part please
I really need advice please, I have tried to do a lot of research but I haven't got any solution so far
Project Name : Vehicle Tracking System
Thank you |
