I3C

OK, straw poll, who KNEW that I3C is actually a real thing ???
My typing is terrible and 'somehow' Google found a zillion hits on I3C.
Dang nobody's mastered I2C and 'they' come up with yet another interface ...
sigh.. getting old
naturally I'm now wondering if I1C ever existed.....
and just HOW does Microchip come up with part numbers ?

I think something involving balls and a drum might be involved for the
part numbers...

I3C has been around for about 5 years. It is reverse compatible, but
is designed to reduce the current needed by the pull-ups and so give lower
power consumption. It has some nice features like the ability for a device
to trigger an interrupt in the master, without having to use extra wires.
It expands on the dynamic addressing available in I2C, and allows
hot connection. It uses the active pull ups that have become necessary for
the faster I2C speeds, as 'psuedo open drain' drivers, allowing fast speeds
without needing small pull-ups. The tech for these was developed for DDR
memory busses.

I2C, was originally IIC. The name evolved into I2C. So I don't think 'IC'
could ever exist as a bus name. Used already!...
