Hello everyone:
I brought another question , is any chance to write an LCD 2x20 larger characters , writing half of the character on the top line and the other half at the bottom line, so you are able to see from longer range???
Thanks a lot |

You could but looking at the LCD's i have there are gaps between the writeable area. You could make your own charcters by writing to the charcter ram, and say write a block of 4 of them to make your own big letter but it would probally look a little strange. If there arnt the gaps in yours you might be OK to do it that way.

No.
Text mode LCDs, have a fixed font. You can define a limited number of 'DIY' characters (which is what this would need), but not an alphabet worth.
Either use a larger LCD, or a graphic LCD, which will then allow the larger characters to be drawn, but will be more expensive than the larger text LCD.

Not really. The standard hitachi-compatible character LCD has room for only 8 user-defined characters. If you can create all letters of the alphabet and numbers using only 8 unique user-defined characters, I'd like to see how.
Now that I think about it, it may be possible if you created very large letters using only solid blocks, half blocks, and triangular shapes. It would be a lot of work. |

Double High Double Wide LCD Characters |

About 20 years ago I used some Hitachi LCD's that were programmed with 2x by 2x numerical digits, as well as the regular small digits. The special 1/4 character symbols were mapped into some of the Kanji character set. I looked for the LCD again about 10 years ago and found that they were discontinued. Your double high-double wide characters will work very well. Double size numbers with normal size letters work great for messages like 12.03 volts.
Seetronics also sells little preprogrammed graphical LCDs (a PIC is piggybacked on the LCD and controls the interface) that lets you set multiple character sizes. They also sell just the piggyback module if have your own display. Good luck. |
