CAN bus activity
PostPosted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 7:31 pm     Reply with quote

Does anyone know what qualifies as can bus activity? I have a device with a can bus that i am trying to talk to. when the device is off the CANL and CANH rest at approx 1.2V. when energized they rise to 2.5V. but there is no defined messages on the bus unless you ping it with a request for data. This is a large machine that I don't have access to its internal program. I am trying to detect when it is energized and then monitor its status. As the monitoring device is battery powered I cant continuously ping it to see if it responds. So I'm looking for any tricks out there that might allow me to use the above mentioned bus behavior to indicate that this %$^*()_^% thing is on.
Thanks in advance
